Wireless vs. Hardwired Security Systems

Hardwired System
Pros
• In new home construction when the walls are open, this type of system is less expensive
• The actual devices are less expensive
• Components are less expensive
• Easier to trouble shoot
• They involve less maintenance
• Stores more user features- history/events
• Has been around longer and has a proven track record
Cons
• They are more susceptible to lightning strikes
• More labor intensive in existing homes, thus more expensive
• More mess when installing in existing homes, having to drill holes in walls, ceilings, and floors
• Not as flexible, a wire needs to get to the location of the device
Wireless Systems
Pros
• Less intrusive as there are no holes drilled in walls, ceilings and floors
• Less expensive in existing homes
• Less labor intensive installation
• Less susceptible to lightning strikes
• More flexibility with locations
• Less able to be defeated
• More features built into unit- voice command/remote arm and disarm
Cons
• More maintenance (changing the battery)
• Interference issues due to environmental changes
• Harder to trouble shoot
• Not as many choices in devices
